Pakistan Holds NA-168 By-Election in Bahawalpur
Voters in Bahawalpur cast ballots on September 27 for the NA-168 National Assembly seat following the death of PML-N member Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar.
The Election Commission of Pakistan concluded polling on September 27, 2026, for the National Assembly constituency NA-168 by-election in Bahawalpur. The seat became vacant in August after the death of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz member Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar.
Voting occurred from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across 292 polling stations, 16 of which were designated as sensitive. A total of 20 candidates contested the seat, with the primary competition centered between Malik Munir Iqbal Channar, the son of the late member representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and independent candidate Wali Dad Cheema.
To maintain order among the 483,143 registered voters, law enforcement agencies deployed more than 3,000 police personnel. The Pakistan Army and Rangers remained on standby to ensure a peaceful process.
