IBM HR Chief Warns AI Risks Entry-Level Talent Pipeline

Chief Human Resources Officer of IBM Nickle LaMoreaux warned that company-wide AI implementation risks breaking the talent pipeline for entry-level workers by automating the rote tasks they traditionally perform. Speaking at Tech Week 2025 in New York City on June 6, LaMoreaux urged organizations to focus on redefining jobs and training employees to work alongside technology rather than using AI simply to eliminate positions.

At IBM, the HR department has already transitioned entry-level staff away from basic information retrieval, which is now handled by an AI bot. These employees now focus on higher-value tasks, including analyzing AI process feedback and troubleshooting improvements to the system.
