Google Report Finds AI Assists Rather Than Replaces Workers

A report released by Google on July 23 finds that artificial intelligence currently serves an assistive role in the workplace rather than fully automating jobs. Based on 15 million interactions with Google AI products, the AI & Economy ATLAS report indicates that while AI is adopted across 68% of occupations, it is used for only about 21% of tasks.

Experts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and DoubleTrack suggest the primary threat to workers is not the technology itself, but other employees who use AI to perform jobs more effectively. In Nevada, a talent gap persists with only 7.1 AI specialists per 1,000 jobs available, even though nearly 26% of local businesses utilize the technology.

Educational and consultancy leaders are urging workers to treat AI as a collaborative resource to remain competitive. Kass Moore of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Andy Boettcher of DoubleTrack emphasize the need for employees to skill up as employers increasingly prioritize candidates with AI proficiency.
