India and Singapore Sign Trade Pacts to Boost Digital Economy

India and Singapore signed agreements on food safety, maritime heritage, and telecommunications to transition their strategic partnership toward practical commercial outcomes.

The Government of India and the Government of Singapore signed two Memorandums of Understanding and a Letter of Intent during the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable on August 21, 2026. The agreements establish new frameworks for food safety cooperation between the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and the Singapore Food Agency, maritime heritage collaboration, and the exchange of regulatory experiences in telecommunications and broadcasting.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal led a delegation to Singapore to promote business-to-business collaboration and Indian agricultural exports. During the India-Singapore Business Forum and an APEDA-FairPrice roadshow, Goyal emphasized India's growth trajectory and the potential for collaboration between India's financial ecosystem and Singapore's global technology network. He was joined at the roundtable by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Both nations identified six pillars for expanded cooperation: advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalization, healthcare, skills development, and sustainability. Emerging priorities include semiconductors, fintech, green shipping, and the green economy. Additional outcomes included the laying of the foundation stone for a new High Commission of India building in Singapore and the planning of a joint hackathon for November 2026.
