Delhi High Court Swears In Seven New Judges

Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office to seven judicial officers at the Delhi High Court on September 21, 2026. The newly appointed judges include Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena, who were appointed as judges, and Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj, who were appointed as additional judges.

The Government of India notified these appointments on September 19, following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 10. While the Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, had recommended eight candidates for elevation, the central government approved seven, excluding Gurvinder Pal Singh. All seven appointees were elevated from the Delhi district judiciary and judicial administration.

These appointments increase the working strength of the Delhi High Court to 50 judges. However, the court remains below its sanctioned strength of 60 judges, which comprises 45 permanent and 15 additional positions.
