Indian Companies Seek $20 Billion Through Share Sales

Approximately 170 Indian listed companies have secured board approvals to raise over $20 billion to fund expansion and debt reduction.

Approximately 170 Indian listed companies have secured board approvals since April 1 to raise more than $20 billion through share sales. The fundraising effort is primarily driven by qualified institutional placements (QIPs), fueled by high market liquidity, supportive valuations, and improving investor sentiment.

Indian listed companies are seeking this capital to finance corporate expansions, acquisitions, and debt reduction. Among the largest planned offerings are Axis Bank Ltd., which is seeking up to 200 billion rupees, and Adani Power Ltd., which targets 150 billion rupees. Additionally, Waaree Energies Ltd. and IndusInd Bank Ltd. have both received approval to raise up to 100 billion rupees each.

To date in the current fiscal year, 28 companies have already raised roughly 550 billion rupees through QIPs. Market analysts indicate that if favorable conditions continue, the total fundraising for the year could surpass the previous record of 1.32 trillion rupees established in the fiscal year ending March 2024.
