JetBlue Launches Largest Ever Flight Schedule in Fort Lauderdale
JetBlue expanded its Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport operations with eight new nonstop routes, increasing daily departures by more than 75% over the previous year.
JetBlue has launched its largest-ever flight schedule at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, introducing eight new nonstop routes on July 9 to destinations including Baltimore, Charlotte, Nashville, Detroit, Houston, Chicago, Cleveland, and Ponce, Puerto Rico. The expansion has pushed daily departures up by more than 75% compared to the previous year, with the airline now operating over 125 daily flights to more than 55 destinations. Joanna Geraghty, the airline's CEO, stated that the company plans to increase operations to roughly 150 daily flights by winter.
Geraghty noted that JetBlue prepared for this growth as Spirit Airlines faced bankruptcy and financial challenges, leading the airline to recruit former Spirit crew members. While the company aims for affordable fares, Geraghty indicated that JetBlue will focus on providing value through amenities such as seatback televisions and complimentary Wi-Fi rather than matching Spirit's pricing levels. Further route expansions to cities such as Indianapolis, San Diego, and Caracas are planned, with the premium Mint lie-flat service debuting on the Fort Lauderdale–San Diego route on November 19.
Concurrent with the operational growth, the JetBlue Foundation awarded $130,000 in grants to aviation organizations and youth development programs across South Florida.
