China Smart Glass Sales Double in First Eight Months
China's Ministry of Commerce reports that smart glass sales more than doubled through August 2026 amid a broader shift toward service-based consumption.
The Ministry of Commerce of China reported that sales of smart glasses more than doubled on key platforms during the first eight months of 2026. Other electronics also saw significant growth, with electrocardiogram monitor sales rising 75% and action camera sales increasing by approximately 27%.
Service retail sales grew by 4.9% from January to August, outpacing goods by 3.9 percentage points. This growth was driven largely by rapid expansion in leisure and tourism services during the summer months. In contrast, petroleum-product sales declined by 6.1% as the adoption of new energy increased.
The ministry noted a continuing shift in consumption patterns toward a greater balance between spending on goods and services. Rural retail sales grew by 2.3%, slightly faster than urban growth, with county and rural markets accounting for 39% of total retail consumer goods.
