Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Visits Baku for Strategic Talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Baku on September 15, 2026, to strengthen the strategic alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan. During a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, the officials emphasized the principle of "one nation, two states," focusing on expanding energy cooperation through new international routes and leveraging their roles as logistical bridges between Europe and Asia.

In a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Fidan expressed support for Azerbaijan's role in negotiations for a final peace agreement with Armenia. He stated that achieving stability in the South Caucasus is a priority, noting that a completed peace process would enable a new era of regional cooperation in trade, energy, and transportation.

Bayramov described the bilateral relationship as "unparalleled anywhere in the world," citing the Shusha Declaration as the framework for their cooperation. He highlighted the intensity of the diplomatic ties, noting that the presidents of both nations conducted eight reciprocal visits between 2025 and August 2026.

Fidan concluded the visit by announcing that the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States will meet in Ankara on October 29, followed by the organization's 13th Summit on October 30.
