Micron Taoyuan Workers Strike Over Profit Sharing

A union representing Micron Technology workers in Taoyuan will strike Thursday to demand a concrete profit-sharing proposal from the U.S. chipmaker.

A union representing Micron Technology workers in Taoyuan, Taiwan, will launch a strike on Thursday. The labor action aims to pressure the U.S. chipmaker into providing a concrete profit-sharing proposal following the failure of mediation efforts in September.

The strike serves as a show of solidarity with a separate union representing workers at Micron's Taichung operations. While the Taichung union is currently in mediation with the company, its members have not yet voted on whether to strike. The disputes center on employee bonuses at manufacturing hubs that produce DRAM and high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI servers.

President Lai Ching-te has called for both Micron and its employees to negotiate sincerely to resolve the conflict. Micron has invested over T$1.6 trillion in Taiwan, where these labor tensions are now escalating.
