China Records 195 Billion Dollar Current Account Surplus in Q2

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange reported that China achieved a 1.33 trillion yuan current account surplus in the second quarter of 2026.

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange reported that China recorded a current account surplus of 1.33 trillion yuan, or 195.1 billion U.S. dollars, during the second quarter of 2026. This surplus was primarily driven by a 1.91 trillion yuan surplus in goods trade, which offset deficits in primary income and services trade.

Specific deficits included 358.4 billion yuan in services trade and 257.2 billion yuan in primary income, while the secondary income account added a surplus of 42.8 billion yuan. The capital and financial account registered a deficit of 1.33 trillion yuan, although direct investment into China continued as a net inflow.

For the first half of 2026, the total current account surplus reached 2.62 trillion yuan. This six-month figure was supported by a 3.63 trillion yuan surplus in goods trade, which balanced against a 772 billion yuan deficit in services trade.
