Indian Navy Frigate INS Tarkash Completes Kenya Port Visit
The Indian Navy deployed the INS Tarkash to Mombasa for maritime exercises, diplomatic receptions, and community outreach to strengthen security ties with Kenya.
The Indian Navy deployed the guided-missile frigate INS Tarkash to Mombasa, Kenya, for an operational turnaround from September 29 to October 2, 2026. The visit aimed to advance maritime cooperation in the Western Indian Ocean under India's MAHASAGAR vision, marking the second Indian naval visit to Kenya this year following a similar call by the INS Trikand in April.
During the visit, High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika and Captain Rohit Mishra hosted a deck reception for the Kenya Navy and diplomatic corps. The engagement included professional exchanges on engineering and navigation, as well as community outreach efforts including a blood donation camp with the Kenya Red Cross and a visit to the Sahjanand Special School in Kilifi. High Commissioner Swaika also visited Mtongwe Naval Base to review the installation of an MRI machine gifted by the Indian Navy to the Kenya Navy.
The mission concluded on October 2 with a Passage Exercise between the INS Tarkash and the Kenya Navy Ship Jasiri to improve operational interoperability. This deployment follows the INS Tarkash's participation in the National Day of Seychelles celebrations in June.
