Maine Resident Criticizes U.S. Middle East Strategy

Jamie Beaulieu, a resident of Farmington, Maine, published a letter to the editor claiming that United States political leaders committed a strategic error in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Beaulieu asserts that leaders ignored institutional advice to maintain a balance of influence between Israel, Iran, Russia, and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East.

According to the author, the decision to favor a select few powers instead of balancing regional influence has undermined American trade and contributed to current instability in the Strait of Hormuz. Beaulieu argues that this geopolitical shift has led to a broader national decline.
