INDIA Bloc Seeks Meeting With President Over Electoral Rolls
The INDIA bloc opposition alliance requested a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The INDIA bloc opposition alliance has requested an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to present grievances against the current administration. Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, characterized the administration as the "vote chori government" while announcing the decision to make a formal representation.
The request stems from a joint action plan developed by the bloc to address the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The opposition's concerns follow reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised formal objections 14 times over the last 10 months regarding SIR decisions.
Congress general secretary K C Venugopal stated that the bloc submitted a list of attendees on October 5 and sought a meeting between October 7 and 9. As of October 8, the alliance is still awaiting a response from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Election Commission of India has defended its process, stating that differing views are a normal part of institutional deliberations.
