Ugandan President Museveni Visits Tanzania to Boost Strategic Cooperation

President Yoweri Museveni began a two-day working visit to Tanzania to discuss trade, energy cooperation, and regional security with President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on August 5, 2026, for a two-day official working visit. He was received at Julius Nyerere International Airport by Tanzania's Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

The visit follows an invitation from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to strengthen bilateral relations and expand strategic cooperation. The two leaders are scheduled to hold high-level talks focused on trade, investment, transport, logistics, energy, tourism, and regional security. A primary objective of the engagement is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation.

Additionally, the presidents intend to review joint projects and address obstacles hindering economic cooperation. The discussions will assess resolutions from the Fifth Session of the Tanzania Uganda Joint Permanent Commission held in March 2026, specifically focusing on deepening economic integration and cross-border trade within the East African Community.
