Blackstone Reports $1.7 Billion Q3 Earnings Amid Realization Drop
Blackstone reported third-quarter distributable earnings of $1.7 billion, beating analyst expectations despite a 34% decline in net realizations.
Blackstone reported third-quarter distributable earnings of $1.7 billion, or $1.32 per share, exceeding analyst expectations. The results come despite a 34% year-over-year decline in net realizations, a drop driven primarily by a 49% decrease in the private equity division and a 21% decrease in real estate.
CEO Stephen Schwarzman attributed the decline to geopolitical turbulence, U.S. midterm election uncertainty, and a higher cost of capital. He noted that Federal Reserve rate increases in mid-September slowed the public debut and sale of portfolio companies. Conversely, the firm's credit and insurance unit saw realizations rise 43%, supported by borrowing for AI-related infrastructure. Fee-related earnings grew 6% to $1.57 billion.
Schwarzman stated the firm anticipated the decline in realizations and expects an outstanding 2027. He cited the artificial intelligence revolution as a driver of robust growth and believes the economy is in the earliest stages of an AI-driven productivity uplift.
