Apple Reintroduces Glowing Logo to MacBook Pro
Apple Inc. brought back the illuminated lid logo for the new PROLED MacBook Pro but requires a Terminal command to disable the feature.
Apple Inc. has reintroduced the illuminated logo on the lid of the new MacBook Pro featuring the PROLED XDR display, marking the return of the design element after a decade-long absence following a 2016 redesign. The logo utilizes a separate lighting system and the CoreBrightness framework, allowing it to automatically adjust brightness based on ambient light sensors and the laptop's screen settings.
Because the company did not include a native toggle within System Settings to disable the light, users must use the macOS Terminal command line tool. According to official support documentation published by Apple, users with administrator rights must enter the command 'sudo defaults write com.apple.CoreBrightness LEBacklightMode -int 0' and provide a password to turn the illumination off.
This disablement applies system-wide to all user accounts and persists through data migration and macOS Recovery. However, the glowing logo remains enabled by default and will reactivate if the user reinstalls macOS or runs a specific delete command.
