Sysco Stops Buying Iceberg Lettuce From Taylor Farms and Mexico
Sysco Corp ceased purchasing iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms and Mexican suppliers following a cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to produce from central Mexico.
Sysco Corp, the largest food distributor in the United States, has stopped purchasing iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms and all suppliers in Mexico. The decision follows a cyclosporiasis outbreak that the Food and Drug Administration linked to iceberg lettuce sourced from Taylor Farms operations in central Mexico and served at Taco Bell restaurants.
Sysco began halting the sale and distribution of the affected produce in mid-July, initiating a voluntary recall before Taylor Farms issued its own official recall. CEO Kevin Hourican stated that the company is now changing the geography of origin for its lettuce and actively diversifying its procurement to ensure food safety.
