Home Secretary Warns Anti-Asylum Activist Over Piddington Blockade

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned anti-asylum activist Daniel Thomas as a far-right racist and warned that he and his organization will face the full force of the law if they commit crimes near asylum sites. The warning follows threats by Thomas, co-founder of the Patriot Platform, to deploy thousands of masked followers to blockade a former defense site in Piddington, Oxfordshire, to prevent male asylum seekers from occupying the facility.

Mahmood sought to reassure Piddington residents that the facility would be self-contained to avoid straining local resources, distinguishing legitimate community anxiety from extremist hijacking. In response to the tension, she urged police chiefs to improve intelligence and utilize new laws allowing blanket bans on face coverings. Such measures were recently attempted by police during an anti-asylum demonstration in Portsmouth.

The conflict follows a symbolic ballot in Piddington where 285 residents voted in favor of leaving the UK to seek self-determination in opposition to the asylum center, compared to 26 votes against. Thomas visited the village shortly after the vote, though he denied being a white nationalist.
