Microsoft and Amazon Pledge Billions for India Tech Growth
Microsoft Corporation and Amazon.com, Inc. announced combined investments of over 65 billion dollars to expand AI and technology infrastructure in India.
Microsoft Corporation and Amazon.com, Inc. announced massive capital commitments to India during the Ideas4India: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum in Seattle on September 17. Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft Corporation, announced a 17.5 billion dollar investment in India to be deployed between 2026 and 2029. Amazon.com, Inc. pledged 48 billion dollars for investments through 2030.
Addressing over 40 Indian-origin technology executives, Nadella described artificial intelligence as a general-purpose technology that requires broad diffusion across sectors and countries to be effective. He highlighted the ingenuity of India's human capital and predicted the nation would possess the world's largest developer community by 2030.
The forum focused on strengthening the India-US technology partnership through the India-US TRUST Initiative, with specific emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing, quantum research, aerospace, and AI infrastructure. Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra reaffirmed the Government of India's commitment to a national AI Mission anchored in inclusivity, safety, and sovereignty.
Beyond the primary tech investments, the event noted that Costco is establishing its first Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad to further integrate US corporate operations within India.
