Liberia Launches Third National Action Plan on Women's Security

President Joseph Boakai and the Government of Liberia launched the third National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security during the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the framework focuses on moving from general commitments to measurable implementation regarding protection, participation, and resilience.

Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow Nyanti identified the Women, Peace and Security agenda as the country's top priority as Liberia campaigns for a seat on the United Nations Security Council. Gender Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie emphasized the need for government accountability, noting that commitments regarding unaccompanied minors must be measurable and implemented rather than remaining as simple promises.

Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee highlighted President Boakai's early financial support for the women-led peace movement in 2003. She urged the current administration to institutionalize the nation's peace legacy by declaring August 18 as Liberia Peace and Security Day. Representatives from France, Sweden, Morocco, Austria, and Australia commended Liberia's use of grassroots women's activism to maintain national stability.
