Homeless No More Breaks Ground on Grand Village Housing
Homeless No More began construction on a $12.8 million mixed-income housing community in Columbia, South Carolina, to provide 30 rental homes for working families.
Homeless No More broke ground Tuesday on Grand Village, a $12.8 million attainable housing community in Columbia, South Carolina. The project transforms the site of the former Grand Motel into 30 rental homes for working families with children, with monthly rents ranging from $450 to $1,100.
The development utilizes a mixed-income model that combines new construction with the rehabilitation of the 1950s-era motel property. In addition to housing, the site will feature the James E. Christopher Community Center, which is designed to provide after-school programming, financial-literacy classes, and mentoring. Officials highlighted the site's location on a bus line as a critical factor for ensuring residents can access childcare and employment.
Financed through the organization's Live Oak initiative, the project relies on a collaboration of state, federal, philanthropic, and private funding. Partners include SC Housing, the United Way of the Midlands, Richland County, the South Carolina Community Loan Fund, Dominion Energy, First Citizens Bank, Central Carolina Community Foundation, and Progress Carolina.
