House Committee Orders Police to Produce Fake Agency Head

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) ordered Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to produce Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi by noon on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the PFIPC and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, is accused of fraud, conspiracy, and impersonation.

Investigators allege Adeyemi used approximately 29 forged documents, including a fake Act of the National Assembly, to establish the non-existent agency. Through these means, he allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and attempted to recruit 300 staff members. He further sought a budgetary allocation of approximately 1.32 billion naira in the 2026 Appropriation Act. While the National Assembly approved funds, the Budget Office of the Federation confirmed that no money was actually spent due to unmet statutory conditions.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeyemi and filed an eight-count charge against him in a Federal High Court. This criminal case follows petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. The matter escalated after Adeyemi accused Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila of demanding kickbacks from a take-off grant; Gbajabiamila denied the claims and filed a 15 billion naira defamation suit. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the matter.
