Nvidia Optimizes Hardware for Chinese AI Models

Nvidia is expanding hardware optimizations for Chinese open-source AI models, including DeepSeek's V4 Flash and Alibaba's Qwen 3.8. The company aims to ensure global developers remain reliant on the American technology stack rather than switching to domestic Chinese chipmakers such as Huawei, which produces the Ascend series of processors.

In a recent SEC filing, the company warned that potential White House restrictions on supporting third-party applications built on Chinese foundation models could materially impact its business. This strategic move comes as U.S. lawmakers express anxiety over the adoption of Chinese AI. Reports have also surfaced that the Donald Trump administration is considering new tariffs on U.S. semiconductors, though a White House official dismissed these claims as baseless speculation.

Nvidia has joined other major technology firms, including Microsoft, Meta, and Palantir, in urging policymakers to avoid premature restrictions on open-weight models. The company seeks to maintain its position as the preferred infrastructure layer as Chinese AI models increase in capability and global influence.
