USPS Announces 2026 Holiday Deadlines and Seasonal Price Hikes

The United States Postal Service has released its recommended mailing and shipping deadlines for the 2026 holiday season to ensure deliveries arrive by December 25. For shipments within the contiguous United States, the agency recommends mailing Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by December 17, Priority Mail by December 18, and Priority Mail Express by December 19. The agency clarified that these dates are recommendations rather than guarantees, as high package volumes, transportation issues, and weather can impact delivery times.

Earlier cutoffs apply to other regions. Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories begin as early as December 16 for Ground Advantage. International deadlines are significantly sooner, with First-Class Package International and Priority International requiring shipment by December 9, and Priority Mail Express International by December 16. The agency also urged customers to plan for Hanukkah, which occurs from December 4 through December 12.

In addition to the deadlines, the agency will implement temporary seasonal price increases starting at 12 a.m. Central time on October 4, 2026. These adjustments apply to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select for both retail and commercial customers. Price hikes vary by weight and zone, with Priority Mail Express increases ranging from $1.40 to $20.80. The USPS stated these changes cover additional handling costs during the peak rush and align with competitive practices. The plan is subject to review by the Postal Regulatory Commission and will remain in effect until January 17, 2027.
