China Exports First Domestically Developed Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine

Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd. shipped its first domestically developed F-class heavy-duty gas turbine to Kazakhstan to enter a global market dominated by international manufacturers.

China shipped its first domestically developed F-class heavy-duty gas turbine for overseas use on August 28, 2026. The 50-megawatt G50 turbine, produced by Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd. in Deyang City, Sichuan Province, is destined for a power generation project in Kazakhstan.

This shipment fulfills part of a November 2025 agreement to supply three G50 units. The export marks a strategic effort by China to penetrate a global market historically dominated by a small number of international manufacturers. The move aligns with rising global electricity needs driven by shifting energy mixes and the expansion of artificial intelligence data centers.

To meet local requirements, the manufacturer customized the units' rotor systems and air intake. The company will also provide lifecycle services for the equipment. Company officials noted that the export is supported by China's expanded domestic turbine capacities.
