American Airlines Adds Barcelona to Venezuela Flight Network

American Airlines will launch nonstop flights between Miami and Barcelona, Venezuela, on January 15, 2027, becoming the only U.S. carrier serving three Venezuelan cities.

American Airlines will launch its first nonstop service between Miami International Airport and General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport in Barcelona, Venezuela, starting January 15, 2027. The route will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays using Embraer 175 aircraft.

This expansion makes the carrier the only U.S. airline serving three destinations in Venezuela, joining existing routes to Caracas and Maracaibo for a total of 24 weekly flights. The airline resumed operations in the Venezuelan market in early 2026 after a seven-year absence caused by aviation restrictions and deteriorating conditions. The company attributes the return and subsequent expansion to cooperation between U.S. and Venezuelan authorities.

The new service aims to provide eastern Venezuela's commercial and industrial centers with direct access to South Florida and connections to more than 100 North American destinations via the Miami hub. While the United States Department of State maintains a Level 3 travel warning for Venezuela due to kidnapping, crime, and natural disasters, it does not recommend avoiding Anzoátegui State, where Barcelona is the capital.
