Homeland Security Prosecutes Non-Citizens for Illegal Voting
Secretary Markwayne Mullin threatened to hunt down illegal voters as Homeland Security announced prosecutions of non-citizens in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the prosecution of several non-citizens for voting illegally in U.S. elections. In Wyoming, Uzbek national Maksim Shakirov pleaded guilty to voting as an alien after officials used the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program to cross-reference voter rolls. In Pennsylvania, authorities arrested Rosanny Fabre Villa, a Dominican non-citizen, for voting illegally in 2024. In New Jersey, French national Eliezer Kadoch was sentenced to probation, a $1,000 fine, and 50 hours of community service for voting illegally in the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections.
Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin warned on social media that his department would hunt down and prosecute individuals who vote illegally, asserting that only citizens should decide American elections. Mullin claimed the department is investigating 300,000 cases of illegal voting. This rhetoric follows similar warnings from U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz in Texas, who threatened to hunt down those violating federal election law.
While the Trump administration has alleged that hundreds of thousands of non-citizens are registered to vote, reports indicate that only about 236 people have been charged with voting-fraud-related offenses since the start of the second Trump administration.
