Volkswagen Halts India EV Investment Pending JSW Partnership
Volkswagen AG is freezing investments in its Indian electric-vehicle program while awaiting a defined business plan from partner JSW Group.
Volkswagen AG has halted investments in its electric-vehicle program for India. The German automaker is seeking greater clarity on a potential partnership with the JSW Group, an Indian conglomerate led by billionaire Sajjan Jindal.
Volkswagen has already completed the design work necessary for a rapid project ramp-up. This plan utilizes a low-cost EV architecture originally developed for the Chinese market. However, the company is withholding further capital commitments until it receives a more defined business plan from its prospective partner.
The investment freeze remains in effect as discussions between the two companies continue to determine the future of the EV rollout in India.
