Hamas Offers to Mediate Warring Parties in Yemen

Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Hamas political bureau, announced that Hamas has offered to mediate between the warring parties in Yemen. The proposal follows a reignition of conflict in July 2026 after the Houthis declared a blockade on Saudi shipping in the Red Sea.

In his first televised interview since taking office in July, al-Hayya disclosed that Hamas leaders have met with United States officials more than four times since last year to discuss Palestinian demands and the Gaza Strip. He also expressed readiness to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to establish a national program for political unity before scheduled November elections.

Al-Hayya accused Israel of wasting settlement opportunities and obstructing relief efforts in Gaza. He asserted that regional stability depends on the establishment of a Palestinian state.
