ConocoPhillips Names Andy O’Brien as Next CEO

ConocoPhillips appointed CFO Andy O’Brien as president and CEO effective September 1, succeeding Ryan Lance who will become executive chair.

ConocoPhillips announced that Andy O’Brien, currently the company's chief financial officer and executive vice president of strategy and commercial, will become president and chief executive officer on September 1. O’Brien succeeds Ryan Lance, who is retiring from the CEO position to serve as executive chair of the board of directors.

As part of the leadership transition, the company promoted Konnie Haynes-Welsh from vice president of finance and controller to senior vice president and chief financial officer. O’Brien stated he plans to build on the momentum established by Lance and continue raising the bar for the company.

The announcement follows a strong second quarter for the Houston-based oil and gas producer. The company reported a profit of $3.9 billion, up from $2 billion the previous year, a growth driven in part by high oil prices resulting from the Iran war.
