Kemi Badenoch Opposes 85 Percent Housing Target Increase in Bromsgrove
Kemi Badenoch visited Bromsgrove District to criticize government plans to increase housebuilding targets in an area that is 89 percent greenbelt.
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch visited Bromsgrove District and met with MP Bradley Thomas in Wythall to oppose the government's decision to increase housebuilding targets for Bromsgrove and the Villages by 85 percent. The opposition centers on the fact that 89 percent of the area is greenbelt land.
Badenoch and Thomas argued that the government should prioritize the development of empty homes and brownfield land over greenbelt sites. Thomas noted that the housing target in the constituency has risen by a staggering amount under the current administration, affecting areas from Hagley to Wythall.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government responded by stating it intends to build the homes necessary to restore homeownership across the country. The ministry maintained that it expects local authorities to prioritize brownfield and low-quality grey belt land and plans to streamline the compulsory purchase order process for empty homes.
