Ford Retains Third-Largest U.S. Automaker Spot Over Hyundai
Ford Motor Company maintained its position as the third-largest U.S. automaker in the third quarter, narrowly beating Hyundai Motor Company despite a decline in sales.
Ford Motor Company retained its position as the third-largest automaker by sales in the United States during the third quarter, narrowly edging out Hyundai Motor Company. Ford reported sales of 507,395 light-duty vehicles, though this figure represents a 6.6% decline compared to the previous year.
Hyundai Motor Company, which encompasses the Kia and Genesis brands, reported a 5.4% increase in sales, totaling 506,200 vehicles. This result contradicted a forecast from Cox Automotive Mobility Solutions, Inc., which had predicted that Hyundai would overtake Ford for the first time.
Ford's quarterly performance was hindered by production struggles with its F-Series pickup trucks, stemming from two supplier fires that occurred last year. In contrast, Hyundai continues to expand its overall market share within the United States.
