NAACP Hosts Poll Party as Upper Pottsgrove Voters Face Delays

The NAACP Pottstown chapter hosted a community celebration on Election Day while voters in Upper Pottsgrove experienced significant delays due to limited sign-in stations.

The NAACP Pottstown chapter hosted a Party at the Polls event at the Ricketts Community Center on Election Day to celebrate democracy and encourage community engagement. The celebration featured music by DJ Princely Funk and free food provided by Kimee’s Catering.

While turnout was higher than in the primaries, logistical issues emerged in Upper Pottsgrove, the largest voting precinct in Montgomery County. Some voters at Pottsgrove Middle School waited up to 45 minutes to cast their ballots. Al Leach, president of the board of township commissioners, attributed the bottlenecks to a limited number of iPad sign-in stations.

Leach is now coordinating with county election officials to split the township into two voting districts to prevent similar delays before the next presidential election. However, he noted that the lack of a second available location remains a primary hurdle to this plan.
