Yemeni Forces Seize Iranian Drone Components in Red Sea

The Yemeni National Resistance Forces intercepted a vessel in the Red Sea on August 24, seizing a shipment of military electronics and equipment allegedly sent by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to Houthi militias. The cargo included guidance and control systems, flight system components, and wireless communication hardware used to manufacture offensive drones. Naval forces detained the crew, who reportedly provided intelligence on smuggling routes and coordination protocols.

These operations occurred as part of a broader escalation that began in early August. The Yemeni army's 5th Military Region conducted a pre-emptive strike on an explosive-laden Houthi drone boat, while coastguard forces confronted other unmanned surface vessels near government-held islands. This follows Houthi missile and drone barrages that targeted government-controlled areas, including the strategic Mocha seaport.

Government forces have retaliated with drone strikes on Houthi positions in Marib, Dhale, and Al-Bayda. Houthi-run media recently broadcast funerals for eight fighters, including a general and a colonel, with reports suggesting at least 100 Houthi fighters have been killed since the start of the month. While the Yemeni government and Western nations accuse Iran of providing military support to the Houthis, Tehran consistently denies these charges.
