Libya Oil Corporation Warns of Shutdown After Drone Attacks

The National Oil Corporation of Libya warned it may declare force majeure and completely halt operations at the Zawiya refinery if drone attacks on the city's oil assets continue. Between Saturday and Monday, three drones targeted the complex, which is the largest operating refinery in Libya with a capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.

One attack on Monday caused a fuel tank belonging to the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company to catch fire and collapse, destroying approximately 4.5 million liters of gasoline. Other targets included a desalination plant and an oil blending and filling plant operated by the Zawiya Oil Refining Company.

Firefighters battled the blaze on Tuesday, while engineers and officials stated that fuel supplies remained unaffected and the refinery continued operations. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, and Libyan authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators.
