Google Releases September Pixel Drop and Android 17 Update

Google released its September Pixel Drop and the Android 17 QPR1 stable build on September 15, 2026. The update supports Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series through the Pixel 10 series, though the Pixel 11 series was excluded as it received separate bug fixes earlier in the month. This release serves as the final major update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which reach end-of-life support next month.

For Pixel 6 and newer devices, the update introduces enhanced VIP contact features, including notification badges for urgent messages, one-tap calling and texting, and a floating navigation bar. Users also receive expanded home screen widgets, a new Quick Settings tile for notes apps, increased background blur, and the expansion of the Pause Point option to older hardware. The update also includes Harry Potter-themed icons, sounds, and wallpapers.

Security enhancements focus on expanded scam detection. Google introduced in-app detection for Gboard users in the United States to flag suspicious messages during typing and broadened Messages detection to more languages and regions.

Pixel Watch users receive new accessibility and control features. The Pixel Watch 3 adds a one-handed pinch gesture for scrolling through notifications, while the Pixel Watch 4 receives improved raise-to-talk controls.
