Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance Ltd., has become the richest person in Asia for the first time. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Zhang's net worth has surpassed $105 billion, eclipsing the wealth of Indian tycoon Gautam Adani.

This surge in wealth is attributed to the growth of fortunes linked to artificial intelligence, contrasting with the wealth of billionaires in traditional industries. Zhang's current valuation represents an eightfold increase from the $13 billion recorded in March 2019.

This financial rise follows a period of regulatory challenges that threatened the operations of TikTok in the United States, the platform developed by ByteDance.
