Kim Yo-jong Rejects South Korean Medical Aid Proposal

Kim Yo-jong denounced a South Korean offer of medical equipment aid as a political provocation and a violation of North Korean sovereignty.

Kim Yo-jong, a senior official in the Workers' Party of Korea, rejected a proposal from South Korea to provide medical equipment aid to Pyongyang. In a statement released Thursday via state media, she characterized the aid package as a "political provocation" and a violation of North Korean sovereignty.

Kim criticized Seoul for publicizing its efforts to secure United Nations sanctions exemptions to facilitate the aid. She argued that South Korean references to medicine shortages and deteriorating health conditions within the North were insults.

Asserting that the proposal was a politically motivated scheme to showcase South Korean goodwill, Kim declared that North Korea has "nothing to give or receive" from its neighbor. She stated that South Korea must show respect if it wishes to mend ties.
