BlackRock and Morgan Stanley Compete for Bitcoin ETF Investors
BlackRock leads the spot Bitcoin ETF market in assets while Morgan Stanley attempts to gain ground through the sector's lowest expense ratio.
BlackRock maintains a dominant position in the spot Bitcoin ETF market, with its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF managing $46.5 billion in assets. The fund leverages strong institutional adoption and high liquidity, characterized by a narrow 30-day median bid/ask spread of 0.03%, though it charges a 0.25% annual expense ratio.
Morgan Stanley entered the market on April 7 with the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust ETF. To differentiate itself as a late entrant, the firm has positioned its fund as the lowest-cost option in the sector, offering a 0.14% yearly expense ratio. This aggressive pricing strategy has attracted $392.3 million in assets to date.
The competition highlights two distinct strategies for capturing investor interest: BlackRock relies on brand recognition and the ability to handle large transactions, while Morgan Stanley focuses on cost-efficiency to attract price-sensitive investors.
