AWS Outage Disrupts PlayStation Network and Global Online Services
Amazon Web Services experienced a global outage on July 24, 2026, causing widespread disruptions to the PlayStation Network and several other major online platforms.
A major global outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) caused widespread disruptions to numerous online platforms on July 24, 2026, including DoorDash, Slack, T-Mobile, and various gaming services such as Roblox, Valorant, and League of Legends. The instability severely impacted the PlayStation Network (PSN), leaving thousands of users across the United States, United Kingdom, and India unable to sign in, manage accounts, or access the PlayStation Store.
Connectivity issues began around 7:08 AM EDT and lasted over six hours. The outage prevented users from launching previously purchased digital games due to license verification failures. While Sony Interactive Entertainment initially claimed services were operational, the company later acknowledged that all services were experiencing issues and stated it was working to resolve them. AWS reported that it monitored recovery progress as routes were restored, eventually resolving the server connectivity errors.
The disruption occurred as Sony faced public backlash over its plan to cease support for physical games by January 2028. Critics argued the outage demonstrated the fragility of all-digital ecosystems. Separately, the event followed a July 23 cyber-attack on Microsoft 365 servers. The 313 Team, a pro-Iran hacking group, claimed responsibility for the Microsoft attack, stating its intent to target western systems to avenge the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
