Anthropic Deploys Fix After Widespread Claude AI Outage

Anthropic deployed a recovery fix on Wednesday after a widespread outage caused errors and unresponsiveness across multiple Claude AI models globally.

Anthropic experienced a widespread service outage on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, which caused degraded performance and complete unresponsiveness across several of its latest AI models. The disruptions affected Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5, and Claude Sonnet 5, with users in the United States and India reporting significant spikes in error messages and slow response times.

Following reports on social media and data from Downdetector, the company acknowledged the incident on its official status page. Anthropic stated it had identified the cause of the elevated errors and worked to implement a solution.

By late Wednesday afternoon, the company deployed a fix and began monitoring the recovery process. Despite this patch, many users and the Digit team continued to report persistent API issues and service disruptions several hours after the recovery attempt was initiated.
