Electric Vehicle Sales Hit Records in India, Ireland and Australia

India, Ireland, and Australia reported surges in electric vehicle registrations for July 2026, driven by expanded model portfolios and government incentive schemes.

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption accelerated globally in July 2026, with significant registration spikes reported in India, Ireland, and Australia. In India, JMK Research & Analytics reported a 63.18% year-on-year increase in total EV registrations, reaching 307,752 units. Electric cars in India grew 81% year-on-year to 30,806 units, though this represented a slight 2% dip from June 2026. Two-wheelers dominated the Indian market with a 61.37% share, while Uttar Pradesh emerged as the leading regional market for registrations.

Ireland recorded its highest monthly EV registrations ever with 9,682 new vehicles. The Society of the Irish Motor Industry noted that EVs captured a 26.12% market share from January to July, surpassing all other engine types. This growth followed the introduction of a government pilot scrappage scheme in July.

In Australia, the Electric Vehicle Council reported that Battery Electric Vehicle sales for Tesla and Polestar rose to 4,921 units in July, up from 1,147 in July 2025. The Tesla Model Y family drove the majority of this volume, contributing 4,644 sales. Year-to-date sales for these two brands in Australia increased 80.4% compared to the previous year.
