Iran Claims Strategic Defeat of US and Israel
Iranian military leaders claim domestic defense capabilities inflicted a strategic defeat on the United States and Israel following a cycle of strikes and failed diplomacy.
Iranian military officials claim that domestic defense capabilities forced the United States and Israel into a strategic impasse. Speaking at a Defense Industry Day ceremony in Tehran, Acting Defense Minister Seyyed Majid Ibn al-Reza asserted that Iran inflicted a strategic defeat on its adversaries, maintaining weapon production lines despite sanctions and deploying new offensive and defensive systems during recent combat.
The claims follow a conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, which triggered Iranian missile and drone barrages against U.S. bases and Israeli-occupied territories. Although the presidents of Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 to end the war and begin a 60-day diplomatic process, the agreement collapsed after renewed U.S. strikes prompted further Iranian retaliation.
Major General Amir Hatami, commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army, credited the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics for upgrading equipment that proved efficient on the battlefield. Hatami stated that these indigenous capabilities strengthened national deterrence and forced adversaries to seek political solutions. Ibn al-Reza added that the conflict demonstrated the miscalculations of enemies regarding Iranian operational capabilities and called for new regional security arrangements in the Persian Gulf to replace unilateral coercion.
