Cadence Design Systems Launches AI Suite for Chip Design

Cadence Design Systems released Cadence Maestro, an AI model portfolio developed with Nvidia to automate and accelerate computer chip design.

Cadence Design Systems launched Cadence Maestro, a portfolio of AI models designed to automate the arrangement of billions of transistors in computer chip design. Developed in partnership with Nvidia, the suite utilizes Nvidia's open-weight Nemotron model and incorporates OpenShell safety technology.

Early results indicate the suite provides up to 30% higher quality and five times better cost-efficiency compared to general-purpose models. Unlike competitor Synopsys, which partnered with OpenAI to create the OpenAI-hosted GPT-Synopsys, Cadence allows customers to deploy Maestro models on its own cloud, public clouds, or entirely in-house behind private firewalls.

Paul Cunningham, Senior Vice President of Cadence Design Systems, stated that foundation models are a "starting point" and that specialization remains necessary. The first models are scheduled for release to select early-access customers in the fourth quarter of 2026.
