KPMG Launches AI Venture Studio Under Todd Lohr

KPMG is creating a Client Technology & Innovation unit to incubate AI-native businesses and address previous issues with AI-generated hallucinations.

KPMG LLP will launch a new Client Technology & Innovation (CT&I) unit on October 1 to accelerate the development of AI-native businesses. Led by Vice Chair Todd Lohr, the group will report directly to CEO Tim Walsh and operate as an internal venture studio modeled after Silicon Valley incubators. The unit is designed to develop edge disruption plays that the firm may eventually integrate, spin out using external capital, or manage as joint ventures.

This reorganization follows the retirement of Steve Chase, the former global head of AI & Digital Innovation. The shift occurs as the firm manages scrutiny over AI reliability in professional services. In June 2026, the AI-detection firm GPTZero found that 40 of 45 citations in a flagship KPMG International report were fabricated. To combat these hallucinations, the firm introduced an AI tool called Hawk to vet content.
