SNP Passes Motion for Lifeline Air Connection Review
The Scottish National Party passed a motion calling for a wholesale review of air connections for Scotland's remote island communities.
Members of the Scottish National Party passed a motion at their national conference in Aberdeen calling for a wholesale review of lifeline air connections for Scotland's remote communities. The motion, proposed by the party's Na h-Eileanan an Iar branch, seeks a complete rethink of how island routes are protected and made accessible.
Member of the Scottish Parliament Hannah Mary Goodlad supported the motion, stating that the issue is gaining cross-party momentum. She pledged that she "will continue to work on this until we find a solution" and noted that the conference motion would raise the profile of the need for a systemic rethink of route protection.
Member of the Scottish Parliament Euan Smith argued that the existing air discount scheme requires reform. He claimed the current discount was "not enough if the underlying fare remains beyond the reach of ordinary islanders."
