Oracle Secures Record $16.3 Billion Data Center Financing in Michigan
Oracle and developer Related Digital secured $16.3 billion to build a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan, as part of the Stargate initiative.
Oracle closed a $16.3 billion financing package for a single data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan, marking the largest single-facility technology debt package ever assembled. The facility is being developed by Related Digital on a 250-acre site and is designed to exceed one gigawatt of capacity to support the Stargate joint venture between Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank.
The funding structure includes $2 billion in equity from Blackstone and Related Digital, alongside $14 billion in bonds structured by Bank of America. PIMCO-managed funds anchored the debt by purchasing approximately $10 billion of those bonds after other U.S. banks withdrew due to concerns over AI infrastructure demand. This project is part of a broader $72 billion debt assembly for data centers across Michigan, Texas, Wisconsin, and New Mexico, contributing to a $500 billion total initiative to ensure U.S. AI supremacy.
Construction began in February 2026. While Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer hailed the project as the largest investment in the state's history, local residents have protested over potential pollution, water quality issues, and electric grid strain. To address these concerns, developers are implementing a closed-loop cooling system and Oracle-financed battery storage, with DTE Energy supplying the project's power.
