Marcye Scott and Everton Blair Advance to Georgia Runoff
Marcye Scott and Everton Blair will compete in a runoff election to fill the vacant seat in Georgia's 13th Congressional District.
Marcye Scott and Everton Blair have advanced to a runoff election to fill the remaining months of the congressional term for the late Representative David Scott in Georgia's 13th District. The special election follows the death of David Scott on April 22.
With approximately 80% of votes tallied following Tuesday's primary, Marcye Scott, the daughter of the late congressman, led the field with 47% support. Blair, a former Gwinnett County school board chair, followed with 37%. Because no candidate secured a majority in the five-person primary, which also included candidates Carlos Moore, Caesar Gonzales, and Fayth Park, a second round of voting is required.
In a separate electoral process, state legislator Jasmine Clark has already won the Democratic primary for the full congressional term that begins in January.
