Dubai and Botswana Establish Africa's First Sister-Hub Trade Corridor

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre and Botswana Stock Exchange Group signed a deal in Singapore to connect Botswana's commodity exports to Dubai's finance and logistics ecosystem.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and the Botswana Stock Exchange Group (BSE) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding in Singapore on July 15, 2026, during the 41st World Diamond Congress. The agreement establishes Africa's first sister-hub trading corridor, linking Gaborone and Dubai to connect the Botswana Mercantile Exchange (BMX) with Dubai's global finance and logistics ecosystem.

The partnership aims to expand international market access for Botswana's primary exports, including diamonds, copper, coal, critical minerals, soda ash, and beef. Collaborative efforts will focus on exploring digital financial infrastructure through DMCC FinX, implementing Shariah-compliant finance, and potentially certifying the BMX vault in Gaborone under the DMCC Global Good Delivery Standard.

A key early initiative involves coordinating diamond tenders between the Okavango Diamond Company and the Dubai Diamond Exchange, scheduled to begin in late 2026. Botswana's Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, endorsed the partnership as a central part of the national economic transformation agenda to maximize the value of the country's mineral resources.
